FAQ

Answers on how we work with studios, venues and event crews: what we need to start, how quotations and invoices run, and what to expect from guides and training.

Frequently asked questions

Producers and technical directors often ask us the same practical things before a first conversation. These answers cover how we work, who does what and how an enquiry becomes a booked job.

  1. What kind of clients does newsymph work with?

We work with television networks, venues and live event companies, from small production spaces to festival stages. Our team covers studio design, camera control, lighting, sound and workflow planning. Most clients bring us in when a space is being built or changed, or when an event needs a clearer plan.

  2. Where are you based and can you travel to a site?

We are based at 14 Walmgate Yard in York. Site visits and event work happen wherever the production is, and we agree travel arrangements in the written quotation. For early planning, a call or a shared set of drawings is often enough.

  3. How do I start an enquiry?

Use the contact form on the contact page and describe the space or event, the date if you have one and what you need help with. We reply with questions or a proposed scope. Once the scope is agreed we send a written quotation for you to confirm.

  4. What does a studio design consultation include?

Helen Whitaker and the team look at the layout, acoustics and cabling routes, then document them in plans your builders and installers can follow. We explain the reasoning behind each choice so your own crew understands the room. The exact deliverables are listed in the quotation before any work starts.

  5. Can you help with a one-off live broadcast event?

Yes. Our workflow planning covers run sheets, signal flow diagrams and crew schedules for festivals and single broadcast events. Callum Rhodes usually leads this work, and he can also brief your crew on the day so everyone follows the same plan.

  6. Do you offer training for our crew?

We run workshops and write technical guides on camera control, lighting, sound and workflow. Sessions are shaped around the equipment your crew actually uses. Group size, length and venue are agreed in advance and set out in the quotation.

  7. How are prices set and how do I pay?

Prices depend on the service, the size of the job and the time involved, and they are set out on the prices page. After you confirm the written quotation we issue an invoice, which you pay by bank transfer. There is no online payment on the site.

  8. What happens if I need to cancel or change a booking?

Tell us as early as you can by email or phone and we will talk through the options. Cancellations and any refunds follow our payment and refund policy, which you can read in full on its own page. Changes to scope are confirmed in writing before they affect the invoice.
