newsymph takes the protection of your personal data seriously. This page describes which data we process on newsymph.net, for which purposes and which rights the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 give you. It applies to everyone who visits the website and to people who contact us by email or through the contact form.
1. Controller and scope of this policy
This website is run by newsymph, 14 Walmgate Yard, York YO1 9TX, United Kingdom, which decides how the data described on this page is used. Questions about it can be sent to hello@newsymph.net or asked by telephone on 01904 797 0226; they concern every page under newsymph.net and the messages that reach us through it.
2. Data we collect
Visiting the website creates server log entries: IP address, time of access, requested file, transferred data volume, browser and operating system. We use these entries only to operate the site safely, to keep it available and to investigate technical errors.
When you send us a message, we keep what you give us, such as your name, the address for our reply, a telephone number if you add one and the text itself, for as long as the matter you wrote about is being dealt with.
3. Purposes and legal grounds
The information described here serves a limited set of purposes: running newsymph.net without faults, answering your questions, preparing offers or agreements and meeting the duties that come with running a business.
Depending on the situation, we rely on your consent, on an agreement with you or the steps that come before it, on a duty imposed on us, or on our legitimate interest in a safe and working website. If you leave out the contact details we ask for, we may not be able to reply.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Only what the pages need in order to work is stored. No advertising networks, no tracking across websites and no visitor profiles are involved, and nothing about your visit is passed on for marketing.
Your browser lets you review what is kept for this website, erase it and prevent it from being stored again. If you block entries that the site needs in order to function, some pages may not display correctly.
5. Sharing of data
Personal data is never traded. Access is limited to the technical service providers that run our hosting and mail systems, who process data on our behalf under a written contract, and to public bodies where disclosure is required.
Some of the providers we work with may keep or process data in another country. When that happens, the transfer takes place only with the safeguards that the rules on data protection require for it.
6. Retention
Information is kept no longer than its purpose calls for. Once that purpose has been met and no duty to keep it remains, we erase it or remove everything that would link it to you.
Server logs are held by our hosting provider for a short period and are then removed automatically. Correspondence stays with us while the matter is open and for a reasonable time afterwards, in case you come back to the same question.
7. Data security
Technical and practical safeguards protect the data we hold against loss, alteration and access by people who are not entitled to it. Where your browser supports it, the connection to this website is encrypted.
No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so we cannot exclude every risk. Within our company, access to the messages we receive is limited to the people who answer them.
8. Rights of data subjects
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to object to processing based on legitimate interests and to receive your data in a portable format. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, a message to hello@newsymph.net is enough. To be sure that we are dealing with the right person, we may ask you to confirm your identity; our answer follows within the statutory period and is free of charge.
Besides contacting us, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator.
9. Updates
We may update this policy when the website, our services or the legal requirements change. The version published on this page, carrying the date shown above, is the one that applies to your visit.
We do not announce every amendment separately, so it is worth checking this page from time to time. Where a change concerns processing that rests on your consent, we ask for that consent again before it takes effect.
